Another large portrait Flagg had done of Hoffmann already hung in Ms. O’Brien’s dining room. Flagg was 48 years old at the time of his daughter’s birth. Author Rupert Hughes is seated at right (in light clothes), and was the uncle of the famous Howard Hughes.
Ms. O’Brien says writing a biography about Flagg was one of her mother’s great goals.

Devastated, Flagg kept his nude portrait of Hoffmann, measuring 27 by 48 inches, above the mantel behind his desk for the rest of his life.
