The author's purpose of Ghost's of war is to entertain and inform. Ryan was moved by 9/11 (which occurred during his high school years) to enlist. Even if you're remotely interested in joining the military, I'd read this book to help you understand what there is to expect when you start your years in training.

To me, this book can be read by people who are the ages of 17 to 23 years old, and you could read this book to see what the US soldiers were doing and how they were feeling during the war in Iraq.
